Babies are able to hear their mothers voice prior to birth so envision the emotional safety immediately produced when each parent begins reading to the child from it is inside the womb simply because now in addition, it can now recognize dad's voice.

You can read one book at first and let the baby become familiar with that, then you can expand your library to include more books. Mom and dad's voice is usually instantly recognizable at birth and especially mom's voice which is preferred above all others.

You can start the whole process by visiting your local bookstore and finding some time honored classics or you may want to choose some that have been recently written. Whatever you choose make sure it's not too long and that it is entertaining and maybe even have some rhymes, that way you and baby will both enjoy it.

If you want more motivation to go out and do this, consider this, researchers in Amsterdam found out that babies whose mothers watched a certain soap opera each day which had a theme song, would instantly recognize the music and respond to it when they were born. There is no doubt about it, babies really do hear from they are in the womb and we can choose some of the things they hear, such as the stories and the music they hear.

The baby hears everything its mother says and always likes to hear her voice more than others when it is born. So don't hold back, start reading to your baby at about 18 weeks and start the learning. Your child will thank you for it later and you will have a child who has an above average appreciation for the language, reading and books, this can only help to make your child a better student once he or she is ready for kindergarten.
